SIP calling, or Session Initiation Protocol calling, is a technology that enables users to make voice calls over the internet using their Android devices. It utilizes the SIP protocol, a communication protocol used for initiating, maintaining, and terminating real-time sessions such as voice and video calls over IP networks.

So, how does SIP calling work on Android devices?

SIP Client: Android devices require a SIP client, which is an application that enables users to initiate SIP-based calls. These SIP clients can be standalone apps or integrated into existing communication apps like Skype, WhatsApp, or Google Voice.

Configuration: To use SIP calling on an Android device, users need to configure their SIP client with the necessary settings provided by their VoIP service provider. This typically includes details such as the SIP server address, username, password, and codec preferences.

Registration: Once the SIP client is configured, it registers with the SIP server to establish a connection. The SIP client sends a registration request to the SIP server, providing its credentials for authentication. Upon successful registration, the SIP client is assigned a unique identifier and is ready to place and receive calls.

Call Establishment: To initiate a SIP call, the user enters the desired destination number using the SIP client interface. The SIP client sends an invite message to the SIP server, specifying the destination address and other call parameters. The SIP server then routes the call to the intended recipient's SIP client or SIP-enabled device.

Media Exchange: Once the call is established, voice data is exchanged between the caller and the recipient over the internet using the SIP protocol. The SIP client on each end converts the analog voice signals into digital data packets, which are transmitted over the IP network. This data is then decoded back into audible voice signals at the receiving end, allowing for real-time communication.

Call Termination: When the call is completed, either party can terminate the connection by sending a termination request to the SIP server. The SIP server then releases the resources allocated for the call, and the connection is terminated.

In summary, SIP calling on Android devices leverages the SIP protocol to enable voice calls over the internet.
